City Sewer Grinder Pump

City sewer grinder pumps are a little complicated. But the main question is usually: “Why do we need them?”
1st reason could be your house elevation is lower than the city sewer. That means water cannot flow uphill to city sewer, so it needs pumped to the main sewer. Or 2nd reason, the main sewer line is pressurized and a pump is needed to open the checkvalves to dump your wastewater into it. Usually in this set up there’s multiple check valves to be sure that sewage cannot backup into your home.
But remember “Grinder Pump” does not mean flush whatever you want. We have plenty of videos and photos of clients that have voided warranties by not following the rule of pee/poop/paper only.

Septic Pump Basin

This is a typical sewage pump basin located in most basements and crawlspaces. This may or may not have an alarm on it. We will always recommend adding an alarm. Sewage in a crawspace or basement is bad.

This is a typical panel located on the outside of your home. If this sounds it does mean stop running water and call. Backup is imminant.

This is a typical alarm panel installed usually located in garages or utility rooms. You can easily silence these, but as always, as long as the red light is on, it does mean to stop running water.
